General Orientation and Training

New volunteers are required to attend a general orientation session.  After general orientation, new volunteers will select the role(s) they would like to perform, and will attend an additional training session specific to that role(s).

Advanced Techniques

Classes in advanced sidewalking and leader techniques are offered to current volunteers at various times of the year.  The classes, offered at no charge, are an great opportunity to hone skills.


Sidewalker Workshop

Friday, January 31, 2014 – 12:00pm to 1:00pm


Discussion and practice of advanced level sidewalking techniques.  Topics to include physical supports, communicating with your riders, FAQs.  Bring your questions!

Leader Training

For those with horse experience interested in becoming horse leaders, additional training opportunities will be available to learn and practice our leading techniques.

Natural Hoof Care - Rob Sawyer

Sunday, January 19, 2014 – 2:00pm to 5:00pm

Learn about natural hoof care concepts and techniques from a trained specialist.

There is a suggested $25 donation for those who are not active High Hopes volunteers.

Communication for Sidewalkers - Leah Booth, SLP

Thursday, January 23, 2014 – 5:30pm to 7:00pm

This lecture will cover proven communication techniques useful for riders with language delays or disorders.

Vision In the Horse and Rider with Dr. William V. Padula

Tuesday, February 18th – 5:30pmto 7:00pm 

Dr. Padula returns to share his brilliant insights into both human and equine visual processing.

Equine Dentistry - Dr. Robert Baratt

Friday, February 21, 2014 – 12:00pmto 1:00pm

Dr. Baratt is our local expert in equine dentistry.  He will discuss the basics of equine dental anatomy and care.

Professional Enrichment


The Winter Lecture Series consists of classes offered in conjunction with our winter Instructor Training Course.  Lectures and role play with our professional staff offers insight through the lens of PATH Intl. certified instructors, PT, OT and Expressive Arts therapists, as well as vaulting and carriage driving instructors.
