Horse skills = fun skills = life skills
and at High Hopes we have the privilege of seeing those connections made day after day.
So what could be better than spending an extraordinary week this summer learning to ride and look after your horse at High Hopes’ beautiful 120-acre farm in the heart of Old Lyme. Whether your child has ridden before or never been near a horse, they will have a camp experience like no other.
Children of all abilities age 4-12, come together to learn new skills, have fun, make friends, care for others, and enjoy a summer camp like no other. Sessions with our very special herd of 25 horses and ponies are designed to meet the individual needs of our campers, both able-bodied and those with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities. Activities include daily riding lessons, gymnastics on horseback, carriage driving, grooming and tacking, and arts and crafts in our air-conditioned facility. Getting too old for Camp? We are always looking for camp volunteers (and although not necessary) we love returning campers – must be aged 14 or older.
Why High Hopes?
Our 120-acre farm, set in the heart of Old Lyme and easily accessible via I95 or Rt 156, is equipped with a vast indoor arena, an outdoor arena, many miles of activity trails and air-conditioned facility. Our teaching staff is made up of PATH Intl. Riding and Carriage Driving Instructors. Our specially trained “therapy horses,” are ideal for beginners and for more advanced riders, and we have a high volunteer to student ratio so you can be sure that, whatever your camper’s age or ability, they will have a fun, safe, inclusive and rewarding week.
Camp runs for five individual weeks between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. For week three only, we are offering an extended day of 9:00am – 3:00pm (for a small additional fee of $40 per camper). Each week caters for a different age-specific group, but because of our high volunteer to camper ratio, we can work with families to accommodate siblings of varying age groups. Due to the generosity of our donors, High Hopes prides itself on being able to offer some financial aid to families who, without that help, would be unable to provide their child with a High Hopes Summer Camp experience.
The application deadline is May 20, 2019. Camp places are limited to 16 participants per week. You will receive confirmation shortly after application. No financial aid applications will be considered after May 13, 2019. At that time we will review all applications and confirm any financial aid by June 3, 2019.
