What prompted your interest in Therapeutic Horsemanship?
My background in horsemanship (45 years+) and education prompted interest which lead to volunteering when High Hopes was located at Kingswood Farm in Lyme then subsequently at the Special Olympics – Equestrian Events at the current High Hopes location. Later obtained PATH TR certification then Carriage Driving Level 2 certification in 2012.
Where did you work before High Hopes?
Killingworth Equestrian Center at a therapeutic riding instructor as well as able bodied riding instructor. Also my own farm – WindSong Farm offering lessons in dressage for young riders.
Please describe two or three (max. five) different things you love about High Hopes.
Giving a sense of accomplishment and confidence is the best gift anyone can provide. The smiles and excitement that each participant demonstrates is a tribute to the well planned good work that is done by the entire High Hopes team, from volunteers to instructors, to office staff and board members to our wonderful horses.
Anything else you would like to add
We are always striving to make our impact even better and stronger. Please help us to know what we are getting right as you observe in the moment!
Brief description of your life outside of High Hopes
I currently own 2 miniature horses that I show in carriage driving as a pair at Combined Driving Events at the Preliminary level as well as at select Pleasure Shows. I also show in classical and competition ridden dressage with other owners horses. I recently traveled to Spain to ride at a week long dressage intensive with Rafael Soto, Spanish Silver medalist of 2004. My husband and I own our WindSong Farm and we have one son, Eric who is now an adult and living his own dream.
