Lesson Manager

Position Summary:

The Lesson Manager is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality equine-assisted services at High Hopes. This full-time position oversees therapeutic riding lessons, therapeutic horsemanship programs, and ground-based wellness initiatives. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Lesson Manager collaborates closely with the Program Manager and Program Coordinator to evaluate participant progress and ensure program effectiveness.

Being a PATH Intl. certified therapeutic riding instructor is mandatory for this position, with advanced-level certification preferred but not required. This role emphasizes supporting and mentoring the Lesson Assistant to help them grow within the industry while fostering a supportive and inclusive team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Oversight

  • Manage the scheduling, delivery, and quality of therapeutic riding lessons, horsemanship programs, and wellness initiatives.
  • Ensure all programs align with PATH Intl. standards and High Hopes’ mission and values.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans to meet the diverse needs and goals of participants.

Participant Progress & Evaluation

  • Collaborate with the Program Manager and Program Coordinator to evaluate participants’ progress, goals, and suitability for specific programs.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of participant assessments and progress, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with safety standards.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to the Lesson Assistant, supporting their professional growth within the equine-assisted services industry.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive team culture that values collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Assist with volunteer training in collaboration with the Volunteer Manager to ensure a well-prepared and confident team.

Quality & Safety Assurance

  • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for participants, volunteers, staff, and horses.
  • Act as the on-site Manager on Duty during scheduled evening lessons to oversee operations and address any concerns.
  • Assist the Operations Director and the Equine Operations Director to ensure that lessons, equipment and activities comply with established safety protocols and best practices in equine-assisted services.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with maintaining lesson schedules, participant records, and other program-related administrative tasks.
  • Support the Program Manager in reviewing and implementing policies, procedures, and program enhancements.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor.
  • Strong understanding of Equine-Assisted Services, including therapeutic riding and ground-based wellness programs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for team members and participants.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings as needed.

Preferred:

  • Advanced-level certification as a therapeutic riding instructor (PATH Intl. or equivalent).
  • Experience in program development, participant evaluation, and mentoring.
  • PATH Intl. Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) certification.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in a farm environment, including handling horses and assisting participants with varying physical abilities.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting tack or assisting with mounting.
