About NCMT:
Founded in 1939, New Canaan Mounted Troop is a nonprofit youth development and therapeutic equestrian center, dedicated to building leadership, responsibility, and confidence in youth through sound horsemanship and enriching the lives of individuals with special needs through equine assisted activities. Our unique, hands-on programs combine the care and riding of horses with a deep commitment to community values and personal growth. NCMT is a pillar of the New Canaan community, serving hundreds of students and families each year.

Position Overview:
The President & CEO of NCMT serves as the strategic and operational leader of the organization, responsible for advancing its mission, sustaining its long-term vision, and overseeing its people, programs, and financial health. The successful candidate will be a mission-driven, visionary leader with proven nonprofit leadership experience, a strong understanding of financial oversight, and a deep appreciation for youth development and equine-assisted programs.

Key Responsibilities:
● Strategic Leadership & Vision
− Lead the organization with clarity of mission, values, and strategic direction
− Collaborate with the Board of Directors to evolve and execute NCMT’s long-term goals
● Operations & Program Oversight
− Supervise staff, volunteers, and program teams
− Ensure excellence in all program areas: equine, leadership, volunteer, and community initiatives
● Financial Management
− Oversee annual budgeting, financial planning, and stewardship of resources
− Partner with financial staff and Board to ensure transparency and fiscal health
● Fundraising & External Relations
− Cultivate donor relationships and lead fundraising strategy
− Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for NCMT within the community
● Board Governance
− Support and engage a committed and active Board of Directors
− Ensure the organization remains compliant with all legal and regulatory responsibilities

Candidate Profile:
● Demonstrated leadership experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
● Strong background in financial management and fundraising
● Exceptional communication and relationship building skills
● Experience with or appreciation for youth development, equine-assisted programs, or educational nonprofits
● Strategic thinker who thrives in a hands-on leadership role
● Comfortable working collaboratively in a small but dynamic environment
● Passionate about horses
Preferred Qualifications:
● Prior non-profit executive leadership experience (Executive Director, CEO, or similar)
● Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, education, or related field preferred
● Familiarity with equine programs
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience and aligned with nonprofit sector standards. Benefits package included.
