Tails from the Tack Room: Visitors, Trustees & a Dash of Autumn Flair

Hello friends, it’s VERA (with LC prowling after some particularly noisy mice—our version of evening “programming”). The start of the fall semester has been as busy as ever—when is it not here at High Hopes?! Between lessons, visitors, and a few paw-sitive interruptions from us barn cats, there’s plenty to share.

This past month, we had the honor of meeting Cyndie Gould, the daughter of our founder, Sis Gould. What a moment! To us, she looked and sounded just like Sis—bright eyes sparkling with that same love for the horse-human connection. We cats know a thing or two about history: after all, we’re named after the original founding name of High Hopes, LCVERA (Lower Connecticut Valley Educational Riding Association). Cyndie toured the campus, marveled at the changes, and even drove one of our newest carriage horses, Shiloh. He stepped out with perfect rhythm—steady, smooth, and just enough flair to impress. From our sunny perch, we admired them rolling across the fields framed by autumn leaves.

That same week, we attended a fun dinner party. Tables covered in delicious snacks and happy chatter filled the air. Turns out, these were our current and former trustees—the ones who’ve guided High Hopes through the years with their vision and dedication. The dinner was to thank them, not to provide us with cat treats… but we still think we added some charm by circling the tables.

And let’s not forget the lively group from StoneRidge Senior Living who came for a campus tour! They met Tulip and Lulu, who, naturally, stole the show. I even put on a performance of my own, showing off my tree-climbing skills to the delight of the crowd.

It’s been a joy to see both new and familiar faces this fall. Between lessons, tours, and gatherings, we barn cats are learning the fine art of hosting. Who knew that entertaining could involve equal parts history, horses, and (almost) snagging a meatball from the trustee buffet?
