Happy Volunteer Appreciation Month!

50th Anniversary

Postcards to the Future

You may have wondered about the two horses toasting a family friendly libation next to the front desk.  As we enter the twilight of our 50th anniversary year, these poster ponies are reminding us to turn our thoughts to the future, and the 50 years to come. Hence the other odd accouterments – postcards and mailbox – nearby; we want your thoughts!

So much has happened since High Hopes’ founding in 1974. We ended a century, and began a new millennium. Dial phones on kitchen walls became smart devices that live in our pockets. The accidental butt dial was invented. That computer that occupied an entire gym and took hundreds of painstakingly created punch cards for each simple calculation has developed into the miniscule chips that undergird almost everything we do.

So much of how we go about our days and get things accomplished has changed in 50 years!

But horses haven’t changed. They are the same sensitive, curious, giving, magical creatures they always were. Nor has human need changed. Our need as humans to heal when we have been harmed, grow strong when we are not, and connect to others has certainly remained the same.

What might the next 50 years be about? What is your wish for High Hopes, our very special horses, and the people we proudly serve?

Please put your thoughts on one of the postcards at the desk, or something longer if you’d like, and put them in the mailbox provided. They are our “Postcards to the Future”, and will be put in a time capsule at the completion of our 50th anniversary year for our counterparts fifty years hence to discover. Thank you!
