Petra
Petra is a beloved Norwegian Fjord mare whose striking brown dun coat, dorsal stripe, and iconic roached mane make her instantly recognizable—but it’s her heart that leaves the biggest impression. A dedicated partner since she began her therapeutic work at just four years old, Petra has helped shape the lives of countless participants and has become one of the most cherished members of the High Hopes herd.
Her extraordinary impact has earned her multiple honors over the years, including a special mention at the Social Service Appreciation Awards from the local Chamber of Commerce—an award typically reserved for humans. Petra accepted the recognition with her usual grace (and maybe a little extra hay to celebrate).
Now 31, Petra continues to show us that age is just a number. She makes it very clear to staff that she wants to be in program, greeting participants with kindness, patience, and a deep sense of purpose. When she’s not working her magic with humans, Petra enjoys well-deserved downtime in her paddock with her best friend, Tulip.
A true healer, teacher, and steady presence, Petra remains one of High Hopes’ greatest gifts.
