Hi friends, it’s LC (with VERA supervising from her sunbeam, of course). The air feels a little crisper, the barn aisles are swept just so, and you know what that means: a brand-new fall semester is about to begin at High Hopes!
Now, while the barn might look quiet during program break, trust us—there’s a lot happening behind the scenes. We’ve had our paws full just keeping up with it all. Our humans have been buzzing around with clipboards, laptops, and the occasional coffee cup. They’ve been updating progress notes, reviewing goals, setting new ones, and crafting lesson plans that will keep participants learning and growing all semester long. We also caught them reorganizing gear, double-checking adaptive equipment, and cleaning everything that might have been pushed to the side during the busy summer. (VERA inspected the tack room shelves. She says: acceptable.)
Even our four-hooved co-workers got a little vacation. The first week of break was all about rest—naps in the paddock, extra carrots, and long grooming sessions. Then came staff schooling, where the horses practiced with adaptive equipment, toys, and all the surprises they might encounter in a lesson. They also had visits from the chiropractor, dentist, and farrier—because what’s a fresh semester without a fresh “mane-icure”? And yes, their tack and gear got the full spa treatment, too. Meanwhile, preparations for participants’ return were underway. Paperwork? Updated. Financial aid? Processed. Helmets and boots? Counted and ready. We barn cats made sure we were present at every inspection, just in case someone needed a tail-flick of encouragement.
All in all, program breaks are critical—a time to reset, refresh, and prepare so that when everyone walks back through the barn doors, we’re ready to hit the ground trotting. So here’s to a new semester, full of learning, laughter, and maybe a few more naps in the hay.
With whiskers twitching,
LC (and VERA, sunbeam expert)
