Meet Liz!

Liz Doering, a life-long equestrian, grew up around horses and as a member of the US Pony Club. Liz had many opportunities to visit the High Hopes campus with her friend Deb Welles, fellow US Pony Club leader and volunteer, and High Hopes volunteer. It was Deb who influenced Liz to become involved with High Hopes. She wanted to learn more about how to become more deeply involved with High Hopes and the therapeutic riding industry, so she went to the former Executive Director, Kitty Stalsburg for guidance and information. Liz went on to become a certified therapeutic riding instructor (CTRI) through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.)’s Instructor Training Course at High Hopes.

Liz owns and manages her own training facility, Sperry View Farm, in Bethany, CT. She actively competes in dressage, and is an avid trainer. Her involvement with High Hopes, while not as an instructor anymore, is still strong and full of dedication. Liz sits on the Board of Trustees, is the secretary on the executive committee, and as a member of both High Hopes’ equine welfare committee and buildings/grounds committee.

When asked what High Hopes means to Liz, the word “possibility” came to mind. “Possibility. Possibilities for people who have been involved with horses and those who haven’t. For anyone, at all stages of life. High Hopes makes so many wonderful things possible for people.” As for a specific experience that touches Liz, she expressed her love of watching Horse Show Days. It touches her, seeing how proud the participants are of themselves and their accomplishments, as well as how proud the parents are of their children.
