Meet Maddie!

“Every Day is a New Memory at High Hopes” — Volunteer Maddie Saraceno

Maddie Saraceno discovered High Hopes four years ago and was immediately drawn to our horsemanship programs. She was amazed by the therapeutic impact of horses—how these large, powerful animals could help people in such meaningful ways and build deep, emotional connections. From the moment she learned about it, Maddie knew this was something she wanted to be part of.

A lifelong animal lover, Maddie has always felt a strong sense of responsibility and compassion toward animals. “It’s such an awesome thing to have responsibility over a living being and give them the best life you can,” she shares.

At High Hopes, Maddie volunteers as a horsemanship coach, sidewalks in lessons, and helps out in the barn. While she doesn’t have one favorite program—because “they’re all so unique and always improving”—she especially loves summer camp. She enjoys seeing the energy and excitement of the kids as they interact with the horses.

Maddie has made many memories during her time at High Hopes. “Every time I come in, I make a new favorite memory,” she says. “Everyone is so welcoming, and this is where I’m supposed to be. It just feels so natural.”

Volunteering has not only brought Maddie joy but has helped her grow personally. She says helping others makes her feel great, and she always goes home happier and more excited to return. “It’s made me a more forgiving person,” she reflects. “I’ve learned that there are so many different people in the world, and it’s important to accept them for who they are.”

Looking ahead, Maddie hopes more people—regardless of ability—will have the chance to experience the kind of bond that can be formed with a horse. “These animals have so much power, and yet all they want is to understand and respect you. I feel like this is something everyone should get to experience at some point in their lives.”

Maddie’s passion for animals, and her deep appreciation for the work being done at High Hopes, shines through in everything she does. To her, every day spent here is more than just a volunteer shift—it’s a chance to make a difference, one memory at a time.
