About

The people who come to High Hopes represent all ages & backgrounds.The majority of our participants are between the ages of 3 and 14, some are in their 80’s. Most participants have varying degrees of cognitive, physical, behavioral, psychological and sensory disabilities. There is no “typical” High Hopes participant, as programs are designed to benefit individuals with a wide variety of disabilities.

Our Mission

The mission of High Hopes is to improve the lives of people with cognitive, physical, and emotional disabilities through the benefits of therapeutic horseback riding and other equine-assisted activities, while serving the therapeutic riding profession through training and education.

Our History

High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Inc., was founded in 1974 by Mary “Sis” Gould as the Lower Connecticut Valley Educational Riding Association (LCVERA).High Hopes was one of the first therapeutic riding centers in the country to be accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA), now the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.).

Our Team

As a charitable nonprofit organization, High Hopes is governed by a 19-member all-volunteer Board of Trustees, and managed by a professional staff of 29 paid employees, of whom 12 are full-time. The staff is augmented by over 600 active volunteers who further support our daily operations.

Careers

High Hopes is a PATH Intl. premier accredited center and is one of only six centers in the United States authorized to offer  PATH Intl. approved training courses.  We have trained over 200 instructors from throughout the United States and around the world, including Israel, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Ireland, Croatia, England, Mexico, and South and Central America.

Internships

Typically, intern candidates are enrolled in a degree program at a college or university and the internship is designed to fulfill coursework requirements. Because of the professionalism and diversity of our staff and services, we are able to meet the needs of students with a wide range of interests.
