Zack began volunteering at High Hopes during the summer after graduating college. He was convinced to try it by his mom and current volunteer Dawn. He began sidewalking twice a week, once in a children’s lesson and another in an adult lesson. Although he had never sidewalked before, Zack picked it up quickly. Within a few weeks Zack was building strong relationships with his riders and the other volunteers. “When I first started at High Hopes I really did not know what to expect but I’m glad I signed up and have met so many great people.”
Zack now sidewalks on Tuesday nights and occasionally subs in additional lessons. When asked what he likes most about sidewalking, Zack states “I enjoy working with the same class every week and getting to know the riders.” He takes the time to get to know every rider and volunteer who’s in the lesson and really makes it feel like an inclusive team. Zack regular has the opportunity to volunteer with his mom, Dawn, and they make a great pair. Zack’s favorite memory is “working with my mom for the first time with the same rider last semester.”
