Equine Manager

Oversees the care and management of all horses at the center, focusing on their health and well-being. Coordinates with veterinarians and farriers, implements tailored care programs, maintains health records, and manages facility needs.

Position Purpose

Manager and provide exceptional care and maintenance for a 20-30 horse herd at a therapeutic riding center

Organizational Relationships

Reports to Operations Director; supervises Barn Assistants; Interacts with services team, BOT and committees

Resources Managed (budget and FTEs)

Full time salaried exempt position; Manages horse and barn budget

Primary Duties

  • Provide quality health care and ongoing maintenance of all horses
  • Develop and implement nutrition, grooming, and exercise programs tailored to the individual needs of each horse
  • Coordinate with veterinarians and farriers to ensure the health and wellness of each horse
  • Supervise barn staff and volunteers, providing guidance and training as needed
  • Maintain an up to date and accurate health record for each horse
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and regulations related to equine care and management
  • Partner with Equine Welfare and Retirement Committee and facilitate meetings
  • Maintain Equine First Aid supplies

Training & Education Required

  • Equine management expertise (BS or equivalent experience)
  • PATH Intl. professional desired and equine management experience required

Prior Experience Preferred

  • Strong background with equine needs specific to EAAT
  • Facility and equipment maintenance

Competency

  • Highly organized
  • Effective communication skills
  • Physically capable of rigorous outdoor work and should also be able to safety lift 50 pounds

  • Builds positive relationships with staff, volunteers and equine community to enhance available resources
